Our Work
Whilst our work may vary in genre and platform, the one thing which unites our work is our collective desire to produce work which explores the challenges we face in our lives - the daily struggles which we face and battle as we exist in this world. As creatives, we are fascinated by what makes us who we are, why we do the things we do and say the things we say, and we want to make work which shows the fragility of the human condition.
As part of our process and given our ambition to be truth-seekers, wherever possible we aim to work with relevant organisations when developing our work. Given our current projects explore themes of addiction and female mental health/violence against women, we are collaborating with experts in this area to ensure work which educates, resonates and, hopefully, inspires change and action.
Current Projects
The Tower
In a dystopian world, where women are at the mercy of The System, three women’s lives are turned upside down when a stranger arrives at the tower in which they live.
“These should be happy times for you. You wouldn’t be here if they were. That’s how I know you’re no danger to us - you don’t run unless there’s something - someone - to run from. The day I ran I wasn’t in your condition, you’re lucky - what I would have given to have still had my children in my belly, to have kept them both safe and warm, to have had them with me. How I wish I had run before they’d yet to take their first breath of this world but…when I did run, I ran so hard, so fast that it was as if my legs belonged to a magnificent animal - a cheetah, perhaps - and I was sat on its back, being carried through the streets. It took courage for me to leave - by the time I left there was barely any reason for me to stay….everything I ever loved destroyed, gone, taken but you, I don’t know what happened to you but I do know one thing: you would not have left if there had been no other choice. It must’ve taken enormous courage.”
An initial 3-day workshop with our charity partner, The NO MORE Foundation, explored the themes and initial idea after which the script for The Tower was drafted and underwent a read through with all four actors involved in the workshop: Claire Merrick, Emily Joy, Lucy Sheen and Felicia Akin-Adaramola. The play explores the difficult themes of violence against women, the fear with which we live inside our minds and how darkness/night time prevents women from living freely - it is an inter-generational, women-led piece, drawing heavily on movement, lighting and sound effects, alongside music, to bring to life the reality of the world in which the characters in the play live. Having now pulled together an all women creative team to work alongside the existing cast & director, we’re applying to Arts Council England for funding for a 2 week R&D: if successful, we aim to develop all aspects of the play, refine the script and secure programming in a theatre.
Who We Are Collective Partners With NO MORE
We were very fortunate to have worked with the fantastic team at NO MORE for the R&D of The Tower. NO MORE is dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault by increasing awareness, inspiring action and fueling culture change. Together, we aimed to create a story which is based on truth, and which seeks to educate, inspire action and change, through the medium of theatre. You can find out more about NO MORE, the work they do and how to get help - or help some one else - by clicking anywhere you see their logo or name mentioned, or using the link here www.nomore.org
The Table
“There is dust everywhere. It’s raining dust. Can you see it? Can anybody else see the beauty? It looks so pretty in this light. It’s like the sun is falling. A gazillion molecules of sunshine falling to earth. Falling on me. I’m glowing - not a mess but…..glowing.”
The Table is a play about addiction. It is a metaphorical/abstract play which explores how addicts function in a world where the very item they desire is everywhere, and which examines the role society plays in encouraging, and then condemning, addicts. The first draft of The Table has been reviewed by a dramaturg and is now is now in the process of being redrafted.
Arthur Sent Me
“Are you familiar with the concept of The Shadow Self? Apparently, we are all – all of us – walking around living with shadow versions of ourselves – and I’m not talking rabbits on the wall or doves - I mean within, deep, deep within we have…difficult parts of us…emotions, thoughts….desires… that we keep hidden down in the dark, buried under all of the layers we have to create to just get through every hour, every day, every year, every decade.”
“And for the first time, in the glaring, refracted light of this canal side warehouse, I see him properly. He is stocky and short and greying, like a squashed George Clooney, not at all like the athletic giants I saw whizzing by on the bikes when I arrived earlier and I don’t know why but I am a little disappointed - I mean I am hardly J Lo – more Jay Cloth Low but still…”
Trapped between playing it safe or saying f*ck it and smashing up the only existence you’ve ever known, what do you do? In this one-woman play, we explore how sometimes the one thing we need to escape in our life is the self we have become, and in this comedy-drama we follow our character as she finds herself in Amsterdam for 24 hours, with no real idea of what she’s doing there and no plan for her time there.
Following a research trip to Amsterdam, this play is under development and the first draft of the script will be completed by May 2025.
